September 21–December 18, 2015
During the 2014–2015 academic year, seven students participated in the Contemporary Art Purchasing Program (CAPP). Now entering its tenth year, this program puts the process of collecting art for our public collection into the hands of students. The student committee, selected through a competitive application process, spends a year learning about art markets and researching artworks; visiting galleries and artists’ studios in Baltimore, DC, and New York; managing a purchase budget; and finally presenting their selections to an Advisory Board comprised of arts leaders in our region.
This exhibition debuts these most recent acquisitions as they enter the university’s permanent collections. After the exhibition closes, the artworks will remain on view in the study spaces, lounges, and corridors of the Adele H. Stamp Student Union—Center for Campus Life for the daily study and enjoyment of students, staff, faculty, and visitors.
