Thinking Back on CAPP—Hannah Kelly '13
The Contemporary Art Purchasing Program was one of the most rewarding programs I participated in during my time at the University of Maryland. I was studying abroad in London when I got the email from the Art History department requesting applications for the program and realized that it was a once in a life time experience. I was excited to be able to purchase art that would be on display at my alma mater for years to come. I liked the idea of leaving my mark on a place that had so thoroughly changed my life. There were times when I thought my head would explode due to an overload of art, but I learned so much from the artists and from my fellow committee members. While it was terribly hard to narrow down our selection from roughly 100 artists to eight, this program taught me to be decisive, to compromise, and to negotiate.
